Scrapbooking "on the cheap"

Scrapbooking does NOT have to be expensive. I'm a momma and wife who does not have a large budget for scrapbooking. We're talking I'm lucky if I can squeeze a few bucks a week to devote to my all-time favorite hobby.
Just because you don't have tons of cash doesn't mean you can't create beautiful albums that your family will cherish forever. Here are a few tips I put into practice.

1. Shop when the items you're after are on Sale!
This is an obvious one. Our local Hobby Lobby and Michaels put their scrapbooking items on sale quite frequently. If you're going to stock-pile, do it when the papers and embellishments are 40-50% off.

2. Look around your House
So many things can be used in your scrapbook. Magazine clippings, random trinkets, buttons off a blouse, almost any little treasure can be put into a scrapbook.
They also sell acid-free spray that you can use to spray the items if you're worried about them aging.

3. Hoard your Scraps
I save literally every little piece of scrap paper. I keep them in a folder organized by color and I
use my scraps all the time. You'd be amazed what you can do with your scraps!

4. Buy in Bulk
If you can spring for it, the big packs of cardstock and patterned paper (especially when on sale) are a much better deal than buying each page for 50 cents to $2.00. You can also get the big tins of buttons, jewels, (I use alot of these items) and brads.

5. Rummage Sales
I love me some rummage sales. Last summer I hit a great scrapbook sale and I spent $50.00. The amount of stuff I got was well over $300.00. Ribbons, stickers, glue, embellishments, paper, fibers...rummage sales are a wonderful tool for scrapbooking on the cheap!

6. Make your own Embellishments
This is something I only started doing recently. Why spend $4.00 on a pack of 5-6 embellishments when I can make my own? Sometimes you have to buy the pre-made ones because they are just plain beautiful. But I've made some pretty darn beautiful embellishments on my own as well!
Get ideas from the internet and magazines.

I'll also be posting tutorials on how to make your own embellishments soon.
